Environmental benefits from Aquamatic wastewater samplers in Western Cape wine region   You are here: Home » News Detail

1st March 2007

MCERTS-approved wastewater samplers from Aquamatic of Manchester, England, are proving increasingly popular with worldwide wineries, including a noticeable rise in demand from environmentally-aware producers in South Africa.

Flotron Technology of Stellenbosch, who are one of South Africa’s leading water equipment specialists, reports a steady climb in sales to Western Cape wineries, who are introducing the Aquamatic samplers to monitor effluent containing sugars, alcohols and tartaric acid, which comes largely from the cleaning of vats and machinery used in the vinification process.

Koos Vosloo, managing director of Flotron Technology commented:“ We’ve seen a keen awareness and willingness here to introduce good quality environmental monitoring systems. Aquamatic’s wastewater samplers are popular because they are easy to use and very reliable. As well as wineries, the City of Cape Town came back for more units after being very pleased with the performance of their first Aquamatic sampler”.

He added: “Whilst, E-32 specification and more recently, MCERTS aren’t applicable here, it does tell us and our customers that if the equipment adheres to what we know is very tough UK and European legislation, then it’s definitely got a good pedigree”.

Aquamatic is the first UK company to gain MCERTS certification for its main range of wastewater samplers. MCERTS is designed to give surety to industry that wastewater sampling equipment meets stringent performance criteria set out by the Environment Agency, in line with current international standards and the growing requirements of EC Directives.
